Biography:
Hello, I’m Cathy Cook. I want to help you resolve your personal legal issues. I concentrate my practice in the area of family law. Family law includes divorce, dissolution, termination of domestic partnerships, child support, spousal support, custody, domestic violence, and premarital agreements.
I began practicing law in 1982, when I served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Gilbert Bettman of the Common Pleas Court of Hamilton County. In that position, I learned first- hand how the courts are run, how judges handle cases, and I worked closely with courthouse personnel. This experience helped me mesh law school training with the operation of the courts. With this background, I am able to educate and assist you in court proceedings.
Following my clerkship, I went into private practice, first with a small firm and then in my own practice. I work hard to stay abreast of the current law and policies in my practice area and in the courts where I work. At least twice a year, I teach seminars to other attorneys on various topics in family law. I also served as an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, which teaches young lawyers how to try cases in court. These activities assure that I remain on the cutting edges to assist you in your case.
In my first 15 years of practice, I concentrated on representing people charged with crimes. In that area, I tried hundreds of cases, which honed by my knowledge of the evidentiary rules applicable to all trials and crucial to admitting or preventing admission of documents and testimony. Having this ability, and knowing how to evaluate likely court outcomes, results in us achieving beneficial settlements for our clients. My work has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell. The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings assist sophisticated buyers of legal services identify, evaluate and select the most appropriate lawyer for their case.
